I was born in Homestead Pennsylvania and grew up on the East side of Pittsburgh in the small mill town of Turtle Creek. My summer home is located on the Allegheny River about 4 miles North of Tidioute.
When I was about 15 years of age, my uncle Mickey Mauritz started inviting me to join his group on primitive camping and fishing trips along the Allegheny River near Emlenton. This began my love for the wild and scenic Allegheny River environment that many are privileged to enjoy today. At that time the river valley trains still travelled the tracks frequently and at night you could hear them coming for many miles before they rumbled through the night shaking the very ground upon which we slept.

Over the years, I was able to travel the Allegheny river from Kinzua to East Brady many times, camping, fishing, canoeing and marking on my carry-along topo maps the interesting and historical places that abound along the way.
After 60 yeas of canoeing and kayaking many rivers, I realized it would be helpful to family and friends if I could record much of what I had learned and observed in the form of a waterproof topographic map guide that could be carried along in their water trail adventures.
After much trial and error and many hours of research and planning, the end result is presented to you in these River Map Books. They represent more than 10,259 miles of combined scenic waterway adventures. My hope is that you will find them useful and that they help you enjoy a safe and exciting paddling adventure.
